That Summer

That Summer
by Sarah Dessen

Fifteen year old Haven has way too much going on in her life. Her parents got a divorce; her father left her mother for Lorna Queen, the Weather Pet, his coworker. Her sister, Ashley, is getting married to skinny-tie wearing Lewis Warsher. Haven doesn't know why though, since he is boring. And lastly, Haven is a giant. She is almost six-feet tall and still growing.

Haven is having trouble figuring out who she is and where she belongs. The world revolves around Ashley and her wedding. It's what she is used to. Then Sumner, Ashley's first love returns to town. Haven is reminded of the summer where everything was perfect. Her parents were happy, Ashley was nice to her. Sumner brought them together. Or was it perfect?

Grade: B

This was the only Dessen novel I hadn't read, and I of course had to jump at the chance to borrow it from Krysten! I would have to say this was my least favorite of her novels. I'm still not sure what I think of Haven's character. I knew I didn't like her best friend, Casey, or her sister, Ashley. I enjoyed Sumner's character a lot. So, like I said, I didn't enjoy this one as much as I did all her others, but it was satisfactory. I wish there was more to the ending though.

Thanks for the review! This is actually the first and only book of Sarah Dessen's that I have read so far, and I enjoyed it! It sounds like her other ones are even better, I really would like to read them!

aw this one looked really good too! Too bad it was just okay. I think I might read it anyway as this is the last one I have to read too.

My least favourite as well.
You can tell it's the first novel Dessen wrote, they only get better as the years go on :)

I've never read any Sarah Dessen, though I've always wanted to. It's good to know not to expect too much out of this one. :)

Also, I nominated you for an award at my blog. :D
